Atelier: Fabienne Verdier
  • Just mesmerized by the extraordinary work of French painter Fabienne Verdier, who works with unconventionally large brushes that she makes herself. Reaching lengths of up to 6 feet long and a weight of 150 pounds, Fabienne's sheep hair, duck down or horse hair brushes are suspended with rope and then moved by hand or with a pair of bicycle handlebars. The minimalist paintings themselves reflect her training under a Chinese painting tradition, with an emphasis on ascetic preparation and spontaneous expression. That one big swoop of a brush gesture requires serious commitment. More here on Beautiful Decay.
