  • Just finished reading The Hare With Amber Eyes: A Family's Century of Art and Loss by Edmund de Waal, the extraordinary story of de Waal's search for his family history after becoming the fifth generation inheritor of an exquisite collection of 264 Japanese netsuke — tiny wood and ivory carvings, none of them larger than a matchbox. It's both beautiful and sad, and utterly compelling. Highly recommended.
