- This serene villa in Saint Barth, French West Indies, belongs to Danish couple Marienne Brandi and Keld Mikkelsen, who escape their busy work lives in Copenhagen whenever possible to spend time in their idyllic retreat. Rather than emulating the colourful house style found throughout the island, though, they've opted for a restrained classic Scandinavian black and white palette for their home, which allows for the lovely colonial architecture of their home — its soaring ceilings, exposed roof truss beams and large windows overlooking the sea and lagoon — to take centre stage. Furnished with an interesting mix that includes nineteenth century Chinese furniture, tribal art, vintage trunks, stacks of books, shabby chic-inspired sofas and shells from New Guinea, it's a relaxed and peaceful space to unwind from a hectic city life.
