Artist in Residence
  • In the Saint-Germain-des-Prés neighborhood of Paris, the artist Kyo, her husband and their children live in a lovely 17th century house that reflects their relaxed bohemian approach to living. Throughout their home, furniture from a variety of eras coexists happily — their collection of Victorian, Art Deco, midcentury and contemporary pieces creates vignettes such as a 19th century chair placed beside one from Ikea. A palette derived from the paintings of Matisse and Derain has resulted in a backdrop of crimson, beige or green almond walls for their collection. Souvenirs from their travels add even more piquancy, while piles of books and the art of Kyo and other artists makes this a deeply personal family home — one that overlooks a lovely courtyard flanked by trees, complete with a fountain in an alcove. Delicately cultivating this sensitive atmosphere, Kyo has made their home a peaceful retreat that encourages creativity. More here from Côté Maison.
