Mid Century Classic
  • This lovely Barcelona apartment, located in a building designed in the 1950s by Francesc Mitjans, is a great example of timeless design — with its great light and proportions, it's avoided the fate of many older buildings, remaining substantially unaltered through the years. The current owners definitely appreciate this — when they recently requested Patrizia Casarini and Monica Colominas of the interior design studio Dalla Polvere to do some work for them, it was just the kitchen that they asked to be physically restructured, to make it more workable for a family of four. Originally divided into three areas — ironing, washing and cooking — the kitchen is now consolidated into two, with a main kitchen area plus a home office. For the rest, the design team have retained the original paneling, unifying the walls with a generous use of fabric for the curtains. Vintage 1950s details like switches and door handles retain the character of the architecture, while the antique furniture and collection of contemporary art add warmth and personality to this lovely space.
