It looks like it's been there forever, but in fact the rustic mountain cabin of Hanne and Peter Borge-Yngland and their two small children was built just five years ago — and they built it themselves. Located in the ski resort of Kvitfjell in southwestern Norway, the 200 square meter house is what's known as a trønderlån, a traditional long narrow building in which the length of the short wall is determined by the length of the timber used to construct it. Inside they wanted to keep things as open as possible — the kitchen, dining and living rooms are upstairs (where the view is the best) and where the heat rises naturally. In the cooler downstairs part of the house are three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a large hall. Nestled in the mountains, it's the perfect retreat from the hectic city.
