101 Projects for Artists and Illustrators
Some great ideas for what to do when there's a lull in paying work — or a case of artist's block — from illustrator Dani Jones.
    The Best Children's Books Ever
The Guardian puts together a comprehensive list of great children's books, with categories for ages 0-2, 2-4, 5-7, 8-12 and 12-and-over. Bookmark this one for future gift giving.
A Collection a Day: The Interview
SFGate has a fascinating interview with the wonderful artist Lisa Congden, about her blog A Collection a Day — a daily series of posts of illustrations and photos by Lisa of her own amazing collections. Love her work.
    10 Days in a Carry-On
Heather Poole, a flight attendant from Los Angeles, demonstrates how to pack enough for a 10-day trip into a single standard carry-on. I am in awe of Heather's packing skills.
    The Soccer Bookshelf
With the World Cup poised to begin next month, soccer fever is everywhere — including here, as Andrew is a huge soccer fan. This timely list from the NYT of soccer-related books is a perfect way for fans to get ready for the games!
    Leaders and Their Moms
A little late for Mother's Day, but interesting nonetheless — a slide show of world leaders with their moms. Via Design Observer.
    Many Minds, One Story
Neurologist and author Richard E. Cytowic examines how Virginia Woolf's mental illness may have defined her writing style — one that strove to portray the actual character of consciousness. Fascinating.
    OSS 117: Lost in Rio
This French spy comedy sounds totally fun. Hubert Bonisseur de la Bath (aka OSS 117) is the Cold War era James Bond-like hero of Jean Bruce's lengthy series of spy novels from the 1960s. Needless to say, his attitudes have not dated well, which is where the comedy lies — and by playing it straight with the source, director Michel Hazanavicius makes it funny. I'm going to see if I can rent this over the weekend...
