The Lost Tribe of the Amazon
This is news straight out of the movies, but it's true — deep in the Amazon jungle, a previously unknown indigenous tribe has been discovered. Brazil has a strict policy of not contacting tribes living in the Amazon in order to protect them and their way of life, but sadly the encroachment of unscrupulous illegal logging companies (who are not above driving forest-dwelling people from their homes and/or murdering them) has forced the government to photograph their community from the air, to prove its existence and counter the claims of these logging companies that this area is uninhabited. Portrait of Mr. Darcy
A 1798 miniature of Thomas Lefroy, believed to have inspired Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice character Mr Darcy, is to be sold at the Grosvenor House Art and Antiques Fair in London later this month for around £50,000. Painted in watercolour on ivory by English artist George Engleheart, the discovery of several mysterious locks of hair in a panel at the back of the miniature adds even more to the romantic history of the portrait.
Harajuku Fashion Gallery
A photo gallery of mind-bending Japanese street fashion. Really hard to describe, but at a guess I'd say influences include goth, scifi, schoolgirl uniforms, David Bowie in the 70s, horror movies, and Hello Kitty for a start. Enormously imaginative, wild, eccentric and fun. Via Cindy (thanks!)
