- These are stills from one of the earliest films made, an 1895-1897 Biograph short of dancing sisters Annabelle and Chrissie Sheridan performing in a specially designed costume. I've seen this, and it's just as amazing today as it must have been when it was first made — like watching a whirling flower, or a jellyfish. You get a real sense of excitement from this, too — of how the pioneers of film were really exploring the possibilities of this new medium. From sixmartinis, via the always fascinating Little Hokum Rag.
